An Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) is a written, agreed-upon description of the company and buying committee that gets the most value from your product. A good ICP combines firmographics, technographics, buying triggers, and disqualifiers.

## What a strong ICP includes

Industry and sub-vertical, employee count band, revenue band, tech stack signals, geography, buying triggers (funding, leadership change, expansion), and explicit disqualifiers. It should fit on one page.

## ICP is not a persona

ICP is the company. Personas are the people inside that company. You need both, but the ICP comes first because it scopes everything downstream: lists, messaging, RFPs, even product roadmap.

## How to validate an ICP

Pull your last 20 closed-won deals, find what they share, then test the inverse: pull your last 20 churned or stalled deals and confirm they fail at least one ICP criterion. If they don't, the ICP isn't tight enough.

## Frequently asked

### How often should I refresh my ICP?

At least once a year, and any time the product, pricing, or market shifts.

### Is there a free way to build one?

Yes. The free ICP Generator on this site builds a strategy-brief ICP from a one-line product description in about a minute.
